Thoreau Woods Coffeehouse is produced by church members, James and Pam Johnson, and staffed entirely by volunteers. James is a professional musician with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, and Master’s in Music Therapy. He teaches guitar at SHSU, and guitar, piano, and bass privately at Johnson Studio. Pam handles the business end. They also put on Johnson Studio House Concerts, and are allied with Millbend Coffeehouse in The Woodlands.

Note to artists: We only book singer-songwriters with original music. We are usually booked for 12-18 months out for main acts and 6-12 months for opening acts. We have been receiving up to ten requests per month for a monthly series so it is very competitive, and we are no longer booking acts that we have not seen personally. Most of our acts we originally see at Southwest Regional Folk Alliance. We have a 2-4 year rotation for returning acts. We only have the coffeehouse February – May and August – November. We have Johnson Studio House Concerts the other months. The booking process is the same for both.
We have a Youtube channel! Check out some videos recorded at Thoreau Woods Coffeehouse.
